چکیده
‘THE RECENT DEVELOPMENT of a new colorimetric procedure (TransAc*), for the determination of serum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase utilizing the diazonium salt, 6-benzamido-4-methoxy-m-toluidine diazonium chloride, as the color developer with a specificity for oxalacetic acid, prompted the following experiments. Determination of glutamic oxalacetic transaminase activities were performed according to the method of Babson et al. (1) on beef heart homogenate, beef liver homogenate, and sera containing glutamic oxalacetic transaminase in the normal and the abnormal ranges. These specimens were then subjected to electrophoresis on cellulose polyacetate strips. The color of the bands were then developed by means of the buffered substrate and color developer used for the colorimetric procedure.

The serum glutamic oxalacetic transamninase rose two to 20 times normal in 74 of 75 patients who had acute transmural myocardial infarction. The height of the enzymatic activity was roughly proportional to the size of the infarct. Serum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase is unaffecte:d by angina pectoris, coronary insufficiency, heart failure, or digitalis in the absence of active heart cell inju...

THE ENZYME GLUTAMIC OXALACETIC ThANSAMINASE (GO-T), which serves as a catalyst for the reversible reaction of a-ketoglutarate and l-aspartate to produce oxalacetate and i-glutamate in biologic systems, has long been known to be a normal component of the serum proteins. The enzyme is widely distributed in animal and human tissues but its greatest activity has been found in homogenates of heart m...

ARGE INCREASES in glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase (GOT) activity in blood serum have been reported for patients suffering from heart or liver tissue damage. The determination of this enzyme as described by Karmen (1) and modified by Steinberg, Baldwin, and Ostrow (2) couples the transaminase reaction with the malic dehydrogenase reaction wherein the disappearance of added reduced diphosphopyri...

Blood samples were collected from 20 healthy miniature Caspian horses at 37 °C. Isolation of cryoglobulin was performed based on a standard method in present study. Harvested sera were kept at 4 °C for two hours and then examined for cryoglubolin. Four serum samples containing precipitate Suspicious of containing cryoglobulin were selected. Subsequently serum protein electrophoresis was perform...

DIPHTHERITIC MYOCARDITIS BY E. CHESLER From the Johannesburg Fever Hospital, Johannesburg Received July 29, 1957 Serum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (S.G.O.T.) is normally present in human serum, skeletal muscle, brain, liver, kidney, testis, and lung. Its highest concentration, however, is in cardiac muscle. Elevated S.G.O.T. levels occur with active dissolution of the tissues containing th...
